Research

I have had a long-term commitment to researching the history of photography. More specifically this work has been focused on a number of themes and specific areas of interest:
  • British photography 1839-1939
  • British photographic company histories
  • The history of photographic manufacturing
  • Photographic patents, trade marks and intellectual property
  • British photographic studios
  • The camera and photographic technology
  • The economics of the business of photography especially in the period to 1939

I have published extensively on these areas in specialist journals and publications and my interest has helped in various undergraduate dissertations and informed some of my publications.

I would be interested in discussing these areas with other interested photographic, economic or business historians. I am always happy to assist other researchers and share my own knowledge, experience and contacts. Click on the Contacts,  left, to find out how to contact me.
